Your role in our journey
As a Public Health Nurse, you will work within the Barnsley 0-19 Public Health Nursing Service and provide evidence based public health nursing practice under the supervision of a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (Health Visitor or School Nurse). You will be promoting and improving health and reducing inequalities at individual, family and community level. You will contribute to the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme working across the age ranges of 0-19 years but predominantly with school aged children. We are seeking individuals who are motivated, enthusiastic and who are passionate about health promotion and public health initiatives that improve outcomes for children, young people, families and communities.
What you’ll need
You will need to be a first level registered nurse and have a special interest in working with children, young people and their families providing safe and effective care that enables all children to have the best possible outcome. You will need to be able to understand the needs of children and young people to assist you in undertaking clear and detailed assessments at both individual and community level including assessment of health needs and identifying risks. You will contribute towards delivering the Healthy Child Programme and provide specific targeted interventions as well as delivering health promotion and public health activities. Your ability to plan and prioritise your own workload and the ability to travel to a range of venues and settings is essential. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals who wish to pursue a career path leading to become a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (Health Visitor or School Nurse).
A lot to look forward to
Here at Barnsley, we live and work by four important values: honesty, teamwork, excellent service, and taking pride in what we do. Our Public Health Nursing Service is at the forefront of providing care to our children, young people and families and we are currently on a journey to shape the service to become a truly integrated service that works in partnership with other children’s services and becomes a beacon of good practice at both regional and national level.
Successful candidates will be offered the opportunity to access the NHS Pension Scheme if they are already a scheme member.
