An exciting new role has been developed, to work in joint collaboration with Mid Devon District Council and Exeter City Council.
We are seeking to recruit a suitably experienced professional for the role of Joint Transport Manager to successfully lead on the replacement programme for both Council vehicles and plant, managing the vehicle supply and maintenance contract and associated contractors.
The successful applicant will be required to ensure the Councils are meeting their statutory and Operators Licence obligations and contribute to our carbon reduction and climate mitigation strategies across Mid Devon and Exeter City. You will be responsible for providing strategic direction on fleet vehicles ensuring the Councils manage their fleet in the most cost effective and efficient manner. They will act as an Advisory on transport and plant compliance with all license conditions, responding effective to changes in guidance and regulations set by the Traffic Commissioner and working within key timescales to ensure compliance within the Councils Standing Orders, Financial Regulations and relevant legislation.
Evidence your suitability and relevant experience for this role by having a minimum of 2 years’ experience of managing a relevant fleet section, driver training programs and accident prevention with sufficient mechanical knowledge of vehicles and mobile plant to make qualified judgements and inspections. A clear understanding of all legislation relating to transport, a sound knowledge of Health & Safety legislation. Evidence of management experience in Local Government relevant to an outward facing service would be beneficial.
The successful candidate would hold a Certificate of professional competence, Freight National (or equivalent) or be willing and able to obtain the qualification.
