Newham is perhaps the youngest, most diverse, and vibrant local authority in the UK. We are transforming how the Council works to put people at the heart of everything we do and to create better homes and neighbourhoods for our residents.
Over the last decade, Newham has already seen an unprecedented amount of external investment and growth in population, with c.7,500 people joining the borough in 2019 alone. However, despite this, Newham still has some of the poorest neighbourhoods in the country.
We are home to several of London’s largest and most ambitious regeneration projects, creating better neighbourhoods for our residents. These include 38,000 new homes and 100,000 jobs in areas such as the historic Royal Docks, Canning Town, Custom House, Stratford and Upton Park. We have the second highest target for new homes of any London borough.
Newham’s Regeneration programmes entail expenditure in excess of £2.5bn over the next five years, of which the most significant component by some distance is property related and the Council holds c16,000 council houses and very substantial other property assets.
The social and economic impact on Newham of Covid19 has been significant. It means that you will be joining the council at a critical point, as we look to support, recover and revitalise our Borough.
In response to the challenges we face, and the opportunities that we are also presented with, we are looking for individuals who can build on our strengths, our assets and who are innovative and want to play a critical role in delivering our ambitions and vision. You will be joining a council and team where the one thing we have in common an overriding goal to enable people and places across Newham to thrive.
In this role you will have plenty of opportunity to influence our corporate agenda working collaboratively with colleagues across the council, the Mayor, Members and external stakeholders to achieve the Council’s Corporate Plan and priorities.
We are looking for an innovative and passionate individual, excited by the opportunity to work in one of the most exciting, dynamic and complex social and economic landscapes, anywhere in the UK.
A highly skilled property professional, who wants to utilise all their skills and expertise, bringing innovation and creativity. We are relaxed in terms of your professional background and equally keen to appeal to a diverse and broad range of candidates from across sectors, so your experience may have been gained in the commercial or public sectors, and possibly across the two.
What is important however is that whilst commercially astute you are a strategic, agile thinker with the vision and creativity to enable us to use our assets effectively and ethically, to deliver investment programmes and interventions that will deliver real, and lasting results for communities.
A highly experienced and skilled real estate and property professional, you will bring a significant track record of working on complex and sensitive property matters, over a diverse portfolio and with significant capital and revenue budgets
