More about the role:

The Bedfordshire Employment and Skills Service (BESS) is seeking a Business Support Officer to work with their in-house delivery team which specialises in delivering English, maths, ESOL and ICT to residents of Central Bedfordshire and Bedford Borough.  They also support unemployed people find work and progress to the next stages in their education or careers and work with another Council Service area, the Academy, in delivery apprenticeships. You will provide comprehensive support with administrative, procurement and performance management activities, monitor and process resident course enquiries and ensure procedural paperwork compliance.

The role will require you to contribute to the continuing improvement of the team’s processes and efficiencies (including the move to increasingly using digital solutions), use of the TERMS Management Information System (MIS) and involve close working with other members of the wider BESS team. 

You will need to have a strong understanding of funding body rules with a view to advising the delivery team of, for example, learner eligibility criteria; checking and monitoring learner documentation to ensure accuracy and funding compliance and  liaising with internal contract management auditors as required. 

You will support the BESS team in administering the examinations process, liaising with accrediting and examining awarding bodies as required, preparing electronic submissions and files for External Verification visits, and help with exam invigilation.

You will often be the first point of contact for existing learners or residents enquiring about courses and should be confident in dealing with both members of public and internal Council staff of all levels.

You will also support the development, maintenance and distribution of BESS publications and promotional marketing materials whilst also providing administrative support for meetings/workshops, preparing and circulating agenda and associated documents, taking minutes and managing the follow up of action points. 

You should hold a qualification at Level 3 in addition to having GCSE Standards Grade A*-C, or equivalent, in Mathematics and English Language and a professional qualification in MS Office or Project management.
