Child Protection Independent Reviewing Officer x 1

The London Borough of Tower Hamlets is currently recruiting one Child Protection Independent Reviewing Officer , situated in the Safeguarding and Quality Assurance Service. You will join the Local Authority at an exciting time as we continue to strengthen our practice and expand our ambitions. Over the past three years Children’s Social Care has undertaken a remarkable transformation which has seen it move away from an “Inadequate” Ofsted judgement in 2017 to being confirmed as “Good” in our subsequent Ofsted inspection in June 2019. We remain ambitious to continue to build on this progress and this post will be crucial to how this momentum is maintained and support our journey in getting from Good to Outstanding.

Over the past 24 months the Safeguarding & Quality Assurance Service has strengthened its role in monitoring and supporting the quality of planning for children and young people who are either Looked After by the Local Authority or the subject to CP Plans. Our practice is restorative in that it emphasizes:

  • A rigorous approach to identifying significant harm or the likelihood of it occurring.
  • Higher degree of parental support using advocacy, Family Group Conferences, a different approach to social work engagement and more time spent on developing outcome-based, child-centred plans to address significant harm or its likelihood.
  • Better collection and use of feedback from all meeting participants.

The Safeguarding and Quality Assurance Service continues to strengthen its challenge in ensuring that each child’s plan is unique to them and that children have access to advocacy.
