The Role

Reporting to the Head of Property Customer Services and Engagement for the communication and resident engagement strategies of the Council’s Capital Works programme, with an annual spend circa £70m -£100m you will ensure that the Council’s consultation and engagement requirements are met.

You will hold direct responsibility for the operational management of the consultation team – to manage, deliver, and embed service standards and approaches to operational delivery which will achieve the Council’s aims and targets in respect of resident consultation, data protection, and vulnerable persons.

You will manage stakeholder engagement including communication and information flow whilst observing strict protocols relating to resident interaction, liaison between the contractors team, housing and legal departments, elected members and the general public.

To succeed, you will develop and enhance all associated management processes, procedures, and systems within the team. In addition, you will provide accurate and timely report project management on performance, output and the service delivery.

About you

  • Preferably educated to degree level/post graduate qualification (or equivalent)
  • Understanding of issues impacting on hard to reach groups and effective interventions to counter disadvantage.
  • Very experienced in a range of methods of consultation, engagement and involvement.
  • Able to demonstrate engagement involving several high impact projects that impact high numbers of members of the public.
  • The ability to successfully manage several projects at any one time.
  • Able to demonstrate the delivery of a range of projects on time and successfully.  
  • Excellent staff management experience.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to represent the council in public and interact with a wide range of audiences, managing conflict in highly charged public meetings.
  • Knowledge and understanding of community consultation processes.  
  • Knowledge and understanding of access protocols relating to social housing and leaseholders within the borough.
  • Knowledge of current housing and social policy issues and legislation.
  • Experience of working in a political environment. 

  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
