We are seeking to appoint a highly organised, ambitious, motivated and politically astute individual to the post of Head of Governance. This role offers immense opportunity not only with a varied workload but also the opportunity to work across a number of different organisations.
The successful candidate will lead the decision making, governance and oversight functions for both Barnsley MBC and the South Yorkshire Joint Authorities
Applications are invited from candidates with experience of supporting and working closely with elected Members and being able to evidence the ability to communicate and apply constitutional procedures in the interests of ensuring decisions taken by the Council and Joint Authorities are both transparent and accountable.
The postholder will advise Councillors and officers on all aspects of the Council’s governance functions and will review and develop frameworks to ensure that the Council remains compliant and provides the necessary degree of assurance to all stakeholders across the Borough and the Sub Region.
Evidence of substantial and successful direct management experience within a Democratic Services environment, including policy development, working with a range of stakeholders/partner organisations, corporate/strategic planning and managing change would be welcomed as would a significant understanding of the legislative frameworks and government policy agendas in respect of this field of work
