About the Post:
Youth Voice & Participation Coordinator (LAC & YP)
- Minimum of a Level 3 qualification or a diploma in youth work practice or other relevant area.
- Experience of working with looked after children and young people whose background or behaviour may place them at risk of poor outcomes and identifying where additional support may be necessary.
This post operates on an any 5 from 7 basis and the weekly work pattern varies totalling 25hrs per week including regular evening work with children and young people. This post does also require some weekend work and work on the occasional overnight residential experience.
If you have experience of working with looked after children, young people and care leavers in a variety of settings including in schools, youth groups and in the community and you are interested in youth voice and current affairs this opportunity may be for you.

Do you have experience of planning and delivering creative, interactive sessions and activities with and for children and young people?
This particular Youth Voice and Participation Coordinator role is responsible for developing, planning, coordinating the work of Barnsley’s children in care council and supporting formal and informal interface that allows all looked after children, young people and care leavers to exercise influence over services they receive locally, regionally and nationally.
You will engage, establish and maintain positive and professional relationships with children in care council members and their peers, key decision makers, internal and external stakeholders and partner organisations through meetings, events and face to face sessions in schools, youth groups and outreach work the community. Developing and supporting youth consultations across council services and partner organisations ensuring the engagement and voice of children and young people in care and care leavers is included in the design and delivery of strategies and services which affect them.
You will support individual young people in your client group who may require additional support and signpost them to other targeted services and provision.
