We’re looking for a Front End Developer, who is able to work on a wide range of CMS and web application projects, to help us in our mission to design user-centred digital services, inline with what our users expect. If you’re passionate about accessibility, usability, performance and creating a world class end user experience, this is the job for you.

You will join a creative team whose focus is to improve and increase our digital and online services, realise efficiency savings and most importantly enhance customer experience.

We never stand still, changing the way we do things by understanding the needs of our users and designing services that make it easy for them to get things done online.

We’ve got a multitude of skills, including research, user experience, process design, back-end development, content and data science, and are passionate about the work that we do. We aren’t afraid to challenge internal teams or processes to achieve the best result for our end users.

About the role

You will be responsible for developing high quality, easy to maintain and well tested HTML, CSS, PHP and basic JavaScript interactivity. But your absolute focus will be on the end-user experience, at all times.

You will be responsible for developing and upgrading front end code and functionality on projects of all sizes and will have some experience of working in a team environment - specifically in website or web application development using frameworks or CMS platforms such as Drupal, Wordpress, Symfony and Laravel.

Your focus will be predominantly on front end development but a broader understanding of the full stack, and the ability to work on basic backend when required would be a plus, but is not essential.

You’ll create and rapidly iterate prototypes, considering multiple user personas, and testing them.

Reporting to the Digital Product Manager, you will be open to challenge, and you will welcome feedback from the wider team at regular stages - as well as offering a critical eye to others.

You will have an exceptional understanding of websites and how users interact with digital interfaces, and be passionate about the future of digital.

You’ll participate in regular team catch ups to ensure that projects are on track, and where blockages occur you may be required to assist other disciplines.

For an informal discussion about this role, please email David Newell, Digital Product Manager on david.newell@canterbury.gov.uk

Benefits include: Flexible working hours. Open to discussion to enable flexibility around remote working.
