Your New Role
You will be responsible for dealing with planning proposals and associated appeals, as well as providing guidance and advice to a wide range of customers inside and outside of the organisation. You will also be responsible for the day-to-day management of enforcement and planning officers. You will be part of a team that will deliver a responsive development management service focused on delivering sustainable development and growth within Portsmouth.
You will deal with a diverse range of development proposals from pre application to post application stage, where necessary presenting the Council’s case at appeal and representing the Council as a witness. You will assist in managing the technical support team and providing effective support, ensuring that the working practices of the team change as a response to changes in legislation.
What you’ll need to succeed
You should have a relevant planning qualification and be a member of the Royal Town Planning Institute. You should have knowledge of planning legislation and experience of working within Development Management, as well as a clear understanding of the role development management plays in delivering regeneration. You should have the ability to provide leadership on development management and enforcement matters, as well as a proven track record of successfully dealing with development proposals. You should be experienced with sensitive political environments and have experience dealing with enforcement.
