Responsibilities of the role

The communications and marketing assistant for Health and Care Portsmouth will provide a range of internal and external communications support to the programme, under the direction of a senior member of the marketing, communications and engagement team.

The post holder will be responsible for a range of marketing and communications tasks, including creating content, collateral, managing social media channels, updating the project's website, drafting email marketing content and creating simple marketing campaigns.

The post holder will also be responsible for a range of support tasks including media monitoring, preparing for events and roadshows and booking print and advertising.

Who is the person?

We are looking for a good all-round communicator with marketing, communications or media experience and a flair for written communications and digital marketing. You’ll need to be well-organised, as you’ll have to capable of managing your own workload, juggling competing priorities and working to deadlines.

Marketing and communications is a busy, creative and, at times, pressurised environment so you’ll need to have the confidence to hold your own and deal with a range of internal and external customers.

As you’ll play an important role in our team, you’ll also need to creative and enthusiastic, and keen to work with the marketing and communications officers to continue to take our service forwards.

Experience required

We are looking for a talented communications professional who combines a range of skills and relevant experience with a real passion for internal communications and the difference it can make to an organisation and its employees. 

You will have:

  • proven communications or marketing experience in a relevant environment: a relevant communications or marketing qualification is desirable
  • experience of researching and putting together targeted communications and marketing activity - ideally you'll have experience putting together simple campaigns and will be keen to develop your skills
  •  an understanding of the media and proven experience researching and writing news releases, features and articles for publications
  •  excellent written communications skills, including ability to adapt writing styles for audiences and channels, and a sharp eye for proof-reading
  •  proven face-to-face communications skills, including experience supporting marketing and communications events
  • proven experience of creating content for and administering digital communications channels including web, social media and email marketing
  •  understanding of market research and evaluation
    • roven communications or marketing experience in a relevant environment: a relevant communications or marketing qualification is desirable excellent administrative and organisational skills

       

      About the service

      The Health and Care Portsmouth marketing, communications and engagement function is hosted by Portsmouth City Council, but works across the major health and social care commissioners and providers - Portsmouth City Council, NHS Portsmouth Clinical Commissioning Group, Solent NHS Trust, Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust and Portsmouth Primary Care Alliance - supporting organisational change.

      The council's award-winning marketing and communications team provides the council with a full marketing communications service, managing media relations, marketing, graphic design and internal communications, producing a range of publications and campaigns, maintaining the council's brand and corporate identity, and taking responsibility for web/social media.

       The marketing and communications team is based in the council’s civic offices headquarters in the centre of Portsmouth.
