About the role
Our Customer, Libraries and Registration Service supports and guides our residents through some of the most significant times in their lives. From registering the birth of our first child to celebrating weddings and civil partnerships or helping both adults and children develop literacy and numeracy skills with the support of our library service, we enrich and empower local communities and make a significant contribution to the quality of life in the county. These services are often located at the heart of our communities, making them well placed to engage with local residents and businesses and understand their needs and aspirations. We also lead the council’s drive to provide the best possible customer experience in all that we do, with our customers at the forefront of the decisions we make.
An innovative and creative individual who will shape the future of these services in East Sussex, you will be a member of the senior management team of the Communities, Economy and Transport Department. You will lead the identification, development and implementation of strategies and plans to provide sustainable delivery and improvement across our services. With compelling, forward thinking ideas, you will enjoy the scope to inform new perspectives and fresh approaches to the delivery of these important services.
To join us, you will need an impressive track record within a large organisation, leading multidisciplinary teams. Your experience will encompass strategic service planning, change management, improving performance and delivering efficiencies. Genuinely passionate about making positive changes in our communities, you will have the excellent communication, influencing and negotiating skills to build the internal and external partnerships to make those changes happen. Knowledge of local authority services and the big issues facing local government will be key to your success.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency’s Points-based Immigration System.
From 6 April 2011 the Home Office has placed a permanent restriction on the number of migrant workers that all Tier 2 (General) Sponsors can recruit. Due to the restrictions we cannot guarantee that individuals that meet the requirements of the Points-based Immigration System will be issued with clearance to obtain work permits.
