Senior Policy & Strategy Officer (City Services)

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Policy and Strategy Officer to join the Projects, Policy and Performance team in Southampton City Council.

The successful candidate will work as part of a small Policy and Strategy team, leading on the development and delivery of effective strategy and policy frameworks for the council’s City Services division with a primary focus on Recycling, Waste Collection and Disposal. This will be an important role, leading work on policy development for City Services, including Southampton’s delivery of the government’s Resources and Waste Strategy for England.

The successful candidate will have significant experience of strategy and policy analysis and development, as well as an excellent understanding of local government and the local, regional and national challenges and opportunities for the public sector. The candidate should have experience working on waste strategy and policies, or a keen interest in this area of work.

This is a high profile, fast paced and challenging role working with senior leaders across the council, as well as elected councillors. We are looking for an enthusiastic, proactive and flexible individual, with excellent communication, presentation, research and analytical skills, as well as experience of thinking strategically, and anticipating and responding to complex issues with creative solutions.
