About the role

Adoption South East (ASE) is a brand- new regional adoption agency which launched on April 1st 2020, when we assumed responsibility for delivering adoption services on behalf of 4 local authorities (Surrey, West Sussex, East Sussex and Brighton and Hove) under a partnership agreement.

We already have nearly 100 staff working in ASE, including social workers, managers, support workers and dedicated business support staff, but now we are searching for a confident and skilled social worker to join our friendly and supportive Woking team.

ASE operates a ‘hub and spoke’ model, meaning that whilst our Head of Service and some back- office functions operate from Lewes in East Sussex, we also have 4 spokes or offices, one in each local authority delivering services directly to the public. All our staff are employed by one of the partner authorities, under local terms and conditions. In this instance, the successful applicant would be employed on Surrey County Council terms and conditions.

You would work collaboratively with adoption colleagues in our Horsham, Eastbourne and Brighton spokes, as well as your own Woking base and so you should be willing and able to travel within (and occasionally beyond) the ASE region for which you would receive reimbursement of expenses.

We support flexible working arrangements, including scope for working from home for part of the week and have invested in technology to support our staff with recent roll out of Windows10 devices.

Within your role you would undertake stage 2 adoption assessments and provide support to adoptive families living in Surrey. You may also be asked to undertake work in other parts of the region to support the work of ASE e.g. running training sessions for prospective adopters and information events. The exact nature and complexity of tasks undertaken by the post holder will be determined by level of skill and experience and service needs. You would receive monthly supervision, as well as access to regular team meetings and good practice workshops.

To be shortlisted for interview your CV and personal statement will clearly evidence:

  • That you are a qualified social worker, registered with Social Work England
  • Have completed the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE)
  • Have a broad knowledge of social work practice and legislation, including safeguarding
  • Strong commitment to securing permanency for children through adoption
  • Ability to support development of therapeutic parenting and family resilience
  • Hold a full UK driving licence

A satisfactory enhanced DBS check would also be required as a condition of employment.
