It’s an exciting time for our HR Team.  Over the last year we’ve taken great strides to modernise our HR offer; introducing self-service through a state-of-the-art HR System, transforming our resourcing function, embarking on a council wide leadership development programme whilst developing an organisational culture through our Team Reading values. Further development plans are in place and we need you to help us achieve them.

 

About the role

We want our people to be the best they can and to give them a platform from which they can deliver the highest quality services to our residents. Central to this is the delivery of top-notch HR Services. Reporting to the Assistant Director this new role will lead key functions including; Payroll and Pensions, the HR Advisory Service, traded HR Services for Schools and will design, implement and lead a new HR Administration Hub.

 

Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Employee Relations
  • Pay and Reward
  • The Trade Union Framework
  • HR Policy
  • HR Projects and Programme Support

 

About you

We’re looking for someone who can combine HR expertise with inspirational leadership, someone that enjoys a challenge, can make things happen, whilst never losing sight of the customer. You should be an experienced HR Professional with a track record of managing teams to success and the ability and desire to bring out the best in those around you.

 

Specific requirements

  • Significant HR experience (generalist or specialist) gained in a large, complex organisation with multiple stakeholders
  • A thorough and up to date knowledge of legislation and best practice
  • Project management expertise and an understanding of project/programme management methodologies
  • Experience of transforming HR services with an emphasis on customer focus and self-service
  • Ability to manage a large and diverse team
