Please note to register your interest in the opportunity to lend 'an extra pair of hands' you must already work for Surrey County Council.
Please note we will not consider applications from external candidates.
About the role
The last few months have been tough. As a council we have had to dig deep and show our resilience, agility and willingness to support our residents, our families and friends and each other during an unprecedented time.
We have shown what an incredibly committed, talented and diverse workforce we are and have come together brilliantly to mobilise different resources in different areas to support each other. For example, colleagues have assisted in care homes covering evening and weekend shifts, have used their green fingers to help with gardening, made calls to vulnerable residents to find out how they are, helped a porter’s team at a hospital, manned the Surrey Community Helpline, provided project management skills to support the distribution of equipment and even built flat pack furniture for supported accommodation.
We recognise that sometimes all you need is an extra pair of hands at work (and in life in general) to make things that little bit easier or to help get things done. We want to continue this support for each another, as well as become more flexible with our workforce to make best use any spare time staff have and the wide variety of skills. Therefore, we are building a pool of Surrey County Council employees who could offer their support to other teams who may need help for short periods of time, whether for several hours, a couple of days or a few weeks.
Managers who need an extra pair of hands can advertise requests for help and support to the staff registered to the pool. Anyone who registers will be emailed information about requests for the areas they are interested in and can choose whether they can/want to offer help. This is just one way of using the talent we have within our organisation, managing some of extra demands and ad hoc needs we face in the short term and building in some resilience.
Interested in providing that extra pair of hands?
If you are interested in registering, firstly speak to your current line manager about offering help, whether now or in the future. Should you provide support to other teams your current position and terms and conditions would be unchanged, and you would normally work within your contractual / scheduled hours.
To join the pool please use the apply now button to add yourself to the list, please note you will need your personnel number (if you are not sure what your number is call the HR Helpdesk on 02085419000) handy and it only takes a couple of minutes to sign up. Giving a helping hand depends on if there is a need, therefore registering does not guarantee that there will be an opportunity.
Our values are what support our vision, shape the culture and are crucial in delivering our corporate strategy.
