Havering Telecare Centre specialise in installing assistive technology and providing a valuable monitoring and emergency response service, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to the residents of the London Borough of Havering.  

A centred person approach is taken to promote independent living for the service user as well as peace of mind for their carers and families, with the reassurance of being able to call for assistance at the touch of a button.

Based in central Romford, and in existence since 1985 we work in partnership with Social Care and a number of other local organisations and charities to provide support for those in need.

Senior Telecare Centre Officer

Grade 6- £30711-£33948pa

To lead the Council’s Emergency Response and Installation Team within the Havering Telecare Centre, including:

  • Direct supervision of up to 8 staff, ensuring agreed team plans and performance targets are delivered and that a culture of putting our resident’s first and continuous service improvement is maintained.
  • To take an active role in the development and performance of the Telecare and Emergency Contact team in line with the Council’s HR policies.
  • To ensure all team members receive the appropriate level of communication to maintain engagement with the Council’s vision, priorities and activities.
  • To deputise for the Telecare, Out of Hours & Building Alarm Monitoring Manager as required, and in their absence, cover the general supervisory aspects of that post, including team meetings, in line with Departmental and Corporate policies.
  • To challenge, manage and resolve poor performance where it exists within the team.
  • To assist in the continuous improvement of the service including the regular review of protocols

The postholder will be required to have a proven supervisory background of at least 1 year and have a flexible approach to working. Knowledge of local government policies are desirable as well as the following:

  • Working knowledge of Telecare including equipment usage and methods of assessment and service response and protocols
  • Knowledge of Older People issues and the associated Adult Social Services and Health issues, such as dementia and elder abuse
  • Knowledge of Supporting People quality framework, performance and outcome monitoring requirements
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety policies
  • Knowledge of Safeguarding Adults
  • Knowledge of stock management and procurement in a local government or similar environment Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people at all levels within the organisations
  • Interpersonal skills to suit a wide range of audiences, including professionals in social services and health and vulnerable people, their families and carers
  • Training and staff development– ability to deliver training programmes to achieve high levels of staff competence
  • Problem solving
  • Technical ability to fit, adapt and maintain Telecare and its associated equipment, including routine check, tests and recycling in accordance with H&S guidelines
  • Ability to prioritise and manage a diverse workload
  • Ability to prepare and present reports including the analysis of qualitative and quantitative information
  • Educated to GCSE or hold relevant professional qualification
  • Hold, or be willing to obtain First Aid certificate

 Additional about you

  • Driving licence and use of own vehicle with business insurance is essential.
  • Willingness to attend to people in their own homes or other locations who are in distress, for example, they have fallen over, or have suddenly taken ill.

The Careline and Telecare service operates on a 24/7 365 day per year basis and the post-holder would be expected to undertake duties outside of standard working hours on a regular basis.
