About the role
Headstart School Higher Level Teaching Assistant
We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated, calm, and caring Higher-Level Teaching Assistant. You will work closely with our Lead Teacher to provide our young people who have Moderate Learning Difficulties including a range of significant barriers to learning including autism, attachment disorder, communication difficulties and sensory processing disorders with an excellent education and life chances. The young people currently learn through an early year’s style curriculum provision which caters for their individual needs.
Headstart is a small Special Needs School in East Sussex with an emphasis on outdoor learning. We work with students on the Autistic Spectrum and complex needs. We have small classes of four to six students and 1:1 and we offer a bespoke education with a mix of academic and vocational courses. Our school Mission statement is 'Positive Learning for Life'. There is a strong emphasis on building self-esteem and confidence, developing independent learners and thinkers and social skills alongside academic achievement.
Our successful candidate is someone who:
- Has previous experience of working within an inclusive team
- Can plan and deliver learning activities, supported by the Lead Teacher, adjusting these according to pupil’s abilities
- Can support pupils in social and emotional well-being, reporting any problems
- Can record pupil progress, activities, and behaviour
- Can share information about pupils with other staff, parents/carers, internal and external agencies
- Is able to work closely and collaborative within the school team and with colleagues from Headstart Care
- Is very flexible and adapt quickly to change
The post is term- time only.
