Job introduction

We are seeking an enthusiastic, reliable and flexible individual who is prepared to work some unsociable hours when required as you will be part of an on-call rota.

Surrey County Council Children’s Residential Home can accommodate children up to 18/19 years of age. Due to legal requirements set out by the DFE national minimum standards the successful applicant is required to be at least 4 years older than our oldest accommodated child.

About the role

  • Do you see yourself as a positive role model for young people?
  • Do you think you can empower young people to make positive life choices?
  • Are you looking for a challenge?
  • Are you approachable and able to engage?

Working in Children’s Homes can offer you a rewarding and fulfilling career.  The new Apprenticeship Scheme offers the opportunity to learn and develop skills in a challenging yet rewarding environment.  We are looking for people who are creative, playful and able to build meaningful relationships with our young people.  If you feel you have the transferable skills, which can enhance the lives of our young people, then we would welcome your application and the opportunity to meet you.

For the Residential Worker post it is beneficial to have some experience of working with children and an understanding of some of the complex issues faced by children in care. You will also need to have empathy, resilience and a good sense of humour!

Surrey Residential Homes accommodate children up to 18 years of age. All of our homes are inspected regularly by OFSTED and most have been judged as either ‘Good’, ‘Outstanding’ or are working towards this, therefore we are very proud of the quality of our residential services for children in Surrey.  As a result, we have continued to invest in our homes to provide a service that is ambitious, innovative and responsive to the needs of young people in our care.

We are committed to on-going professional development and offer a wide range of training courses that support staff to learn and develop skills throughout their employment. As an employer, Surrey Council is dedicated to career progression and enhancing the opportunities for all of its staff members.

An enhanced DBS ‘Disclosure and Barring Service’ check for regulated activity (formerly known as CRB) and the Children’s and Adults’ Barred List checks will be required for this role.

You will be enthusiastic, reliable and flexible in your approach to work as hours worked are on a shift basis. You will be prepared to work waking night shifts, evenings, weekends, bank holidays and sleep in’s. As Bank Worker, your shifts will be ad hoc, and there will be times when you are required at short notice to provide emergency cover.
