About the role
East Sussex County Council’s Flood Risk Management Team is recruiting for a Flood Strategy and Drainage Officer. This is a diverse role which will assist the County Council in discharging its responsibilities under the Flood and Water Management Act 2010, by commenting on the local flood risk implications of major planning applications, managing research projects and the delivery of flood alleviation works. The post holder will have a key role in the development of local flood risk policy in the county as well as leading on the development and submission of bids for funding.
A working knowledge of Geographic Information Systems, namely QGIS, and other analytic software will be a necessary element of the post. In addition to this, the post holder will ideally lead on the development of the team’s ICT capability and should, therefore, be familiar with a range of relevant applications used in the management of local flood risk and drainage design.
This role will require a range of skills and abilities including an understanding of how the various agencies and organisations involved in the management of water interact with each other, a sound knowledge of flood risk management techniques and engineering principles, and a demonstrable ability to deal with members of the public with tact, diplomacy and empathy.
Pay Award Pending.
Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency’s Points-based Immigration System.
From 6 April 2011 the Home Office has placed a permanent restriction on the number of migrant workers that all Tier 2 (General) Sponsors can recruit. Due to the restrictions we cannot guarantee that individuals that meet the requirements of the Points-based Immigration System will be issued with clearance to obtain work permits.
