Central Bedfordshire Council are committed to supporting children with special educational needs. The council are looking to recruit 3 full time Educational Communicators to work as part of the Hearing Impairment Team within our specialist resource provisions based at Toddington St George Church of England School, Parkfields Middle School and Harlington Upper School. You will join an experienced team of Educational Communicators co-ordinated by the Provision’s Qualified Teacher of the Deaf (QTOD). The team is committed to greatly improving the lives of children within Central Bedfordshire.
The successful candidate will provide dedicated one to one communication support for pupils with severe/profound hearing impairments. Thus, enabling students to access the academic and social curriculum, and empowering them to realise their full academic potential under the direction of the Provision’s Qualified Teacher of the Deaf within the classroom and the provision. The ability to use your own initiative, work alone and as part of a friendly team is vital as is working as part of the wider school team. The successful candidate will be supported by the Hearing Impairment Team to develop their skills working with deaf pupils.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of GCSE English and Maths grade C or above or equivalent. In addition, a British Sign Language (BSL) level 1 qualification or above is desirable, or a commitment to achieving the qualification within a year.
