About the role
An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead a key area within our college.
We are looking for an Alternative Provision Leader to work with students in our newly refurbished, bespoke ‘Aspire’ facility. The facility is designed to support a small group of students across both Key Stage 3 and 4 for whom a mainstream curriculum is not necessarily appropriate.
The successful candidate may be either a teacher or a non-teacher and will be responsible for leading a small team of staff. A key responsibility is to devise and monitor alternative provision timetables for each student in the facility, which may include co-ordinating a young person’s access to mainstream lessons, alternative provision on or off site, and work-related learning such as work experience.
As these students will be working towards various academic and vocational qualifications, another key aspect of the role is to be able to ensure students make progress by helping them to access, understand, and complete work that has been set for them.
An optimistic and nurturing approach is essential, as the successful candidate will be expected to lead on the creation and provision of support and intervention programmes for students accessing the facility. These will be delivered by the Aspire team to individuals or small groups in order to support student wellbeing, engagement and achievement.
Therefore, we are looking for a student focused, resilient, emotionally literate leader, to work with these students to ensure they are accessing education appropriate to their needs. Excellent communication skills are essential, as often, the work will also involve liaising with the student’s families and other key professionals.
You will need boundless energy, a good sense of humour and a strong sense of social justice. You will be accountable for the attendance, behaviour and outcomes of the small cohort of students you are working with.
