Can you bring you bring policy development skills together with project management experience – the theoretical and the practical, the development of ideas based on evidence and the measured implementation to follow? Can you share your knowledge of environmental good practice and sustainability to improve the lives of all in Newark and Sherwood?

Newark and Sherwood District Council’s new Environmental Policy and Projects Officer will be responsible for the development, delivery and general management of the Council’s environmental policy, “Greening Newark and Sherwood”, as well as cross-organisational sustainability projects (including the Council’s ongoing response to the declared Climate Emergency). The post holder will also provide technical advice and support to inform services and outcomes, recognising that in the Council’s 2018 Resident Survey 90% of respondents said it was important or very important to them to be able to live in a sustainable and environmentally aware way.

You’ll work in the Council’s corporate Transformation Team but with colleagues from across the entire organisation. Working with the Senior Leadership Team, Elected Members and Officers within the Council you will ensure that Environmental Policy is reflected in our ways of working and the ways in which we deliver services, promoting and supporting a broad understanding (internally and externally) of the Council’s corporate environmental policy and potential opportunities for collaboration.

You will translate up to date international, national and regional data in to an accessible and relevant format, making recommendations where appropriate, enabling key decision makers to put effective policies in place. You will also use collected data in relation to our own services and estate to monitor our performance, highlight successes and drive further improvements.

You will have a proven track record in policy or strategy development and demonstrable experience of project management. You will bring up-to-date knowledge of environmental legislation and of local authority statutory requirements (and beyond) relating to sustainability, and particularly to CO2 emission reduction targets, to the role. With up to date knowledge of legislation and statutory requirements relating to sustainability, you will have an aptitude for collating and analysing complex data, using the information to inform policy. You will be able well work under pressure, managing your own workload and prioritising as required and will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
