Service Manager – Leaving Care

£56,997 - £70,677

Reporting to the Head of Children in Care & Leaving Care, you will be expected to provide strong and visible leadership for our Leaving Care service. You will be passionate about the experiences of children in care and care leavers to drive improved outcomes for young people. You will be an experienced service manager able to evidence the delivery of improving the impact that social care practice has on the lives of children and families. You’ll be responsible for ensuring high standards of corporate parenting with the Local Authority and wider partnership, ensuring co-production provides an outstanding Care Leaver offer for Newham.

You will be an inspiring leader who will work constructively and creatively with managers reporting to you and in your engagement with personal advisors responsible for directly working with young people. You will be a confident decision maker and able to instil confidence with young people, staff, colleagues, and partners. You will be committed to Newham’s practice model of a Restorative approach with Systemic Practice across all services.

This is a fantastic opportunity to shape a service and drive improvements including the developing of our Care Leavers Hub ‘The Cove’, providing a legacy of positive pathways for a generation of Newham care leavers. Your work will really make a huge difference in these young people’s lives.

You are full of energy and enthusiasm, taking a creative but pragmatic approach to developing your service and keeping your teams on track. You have extensive management experience and a track record of delivering successful outcomes for young people who have been in the care system within a diverse urban community. We want you to share our ambition and energy in embracing new ways of working, and expect you to have considerable knowledge of the service area and what is most important to young people leaving care.

You will be able to show strong leadership in a changing and ambiguous environment, with the ability to use data to improve services. You’ll be comfortable overseeing a diverse workforce, and value not just your own learning but also the development of those you manage. The embedding of systemic practice and a restorative approach are both key to our journey and we welcome interest from applicants who have management experience in a systemically practising organisation.

You must have a recognised social work qualification and be registered with Social Work England to apply for this role.
