Role Purpose

Thepost holder will work in a small team of officers working with single clientswith complex needs. The team provides a homeless reliefand prevention, housing options and bespoke service to single clients whoare homeless or threatened with homelessness.

The team works closely withProbation, the Royal London Hospital, Mile End Hospital, East London FoundationTrust, Prisons, Rough Sleeping Initiatives agencies andother partners taking direct referrals following agreed protocols, working to aprevention agenda.

Key Responsibilities

The post holderwill work in this team and will specifically work with to prevent care leaversfrom beinghomelessness and roughsleeping. This will be done by ensuring that care leavers are living insuitableaccommodation inline with statutory guidelines.

The post holderwill work deliver this service in liaison with the Through Care Service andwill therefore contribute to thedevelopment of a comprehensive Housing Advice and Support Service for young peopletransitioning from being looked after on to independent living arrangements.

To ensure relevant support and trainings arein place for looked after children and care leavers in order to ensure theysuccessfully transition to independent living. The post holder will assist andguide care leavers with support needs to make appropriate choices regardingtheir housing pathways. The officer will also ensure thatclients receive, either directly or through relevant partners, appropriateadvice on their housing options offering alternatives to prevent orend their homelessness.


Requirements

The postholder will need to be empathetic with an eye for detail and the ability towork with clients that may be difficult and challenging. Also a good servicethat such clients can access will be helpful.

A good knowledge of the HomelessnessReduction Act and the requirements especially in relation to care leavers will be necessary.

To have a sound knowledge around financial responsibility andentitlements of care leavers relating to accommodation and knowledge of issues affecting looked after childrenand care leavers around accommodation.

Understanding of current issues facing serviceusers and Third Sector organisations in Tower Hamlets with regards toaccommodation.

Post-holderwill be required to write Notice letters and where prevention or duty to reliefcould not be achieved within 56days, robust s184 decision.
