Qualified Habilitation Specialist (QHS)

Permanent part time role – 3 days per week

Grade 6-  £30711-£33948 pro rata

 

We are seeking to appoint an experienced and highly motivated Qualified Habilitation Specialist. The successful candidate will have experience of working with visually impaired children and their families. You will join a multi-disciplinary team within the London Borough of Havering and will support the delivery of specialist habilitation (mobility and independent living skills) for children and young people with visual impairments.

Working closely with other professionals including the advisory teachers for children with visual impairments and multi-sensory impairments you will work to ensure that the CYP with visual impairments in Havering receive an excellent level of service in habilitation (mobility and independence).

 

You will be able to deliver a high quality habilitation & mobility service for Visually Impaired Children and Young People (CYP) including assessments, training and advice, including support for Severely Sight Impaired (SSI) and Sight Impaired (SI) students and maximise the independence and inclusion of blind and visually impaired children and young people through working with professionals and parents/carers in both schools and public places of relevance to the CYP and their needs.

You will participate as a team member in the operation, promotion, evaluation and development of the CAD 5-19 Support Team and its provision for children with SSI and SI by developing individual habilitation training programmes on the basis of needs identified in agreement with the CYP, parents and other CAD 5-19 Team members and professionals and offer and deliver training and advice for LSAs and TAs to support students with SSI and SI.

Ideally we wish to appoint a qualified Habilitation specialist however training would be available for exceptional candidates with relevant experience and who meet the course entry requirements.

You will also need the following skills and experience:

  • Ability to communicate effectivity with CYP, their families, and other professionals
  • Evidence of working safely with children and young people
  • Ability to plan, deliver and evaluate programmes of work
  • Ability to work independently and manage a caseload
  • Ability to be well organised and work to deadlines

The QHS should:

Hold a specialist Graduate Diploma in Habilitation and Disabilities of Sight (Children and Young People) or equivalent qualification which specifically meets all the learning outcomes from the ‘Quality Standards – Delivery of Habilitation Training (Mobility and Independent Living Skills) for Children and Young People with Visual Impairment (m2011).

Entry requirements for Graduate Diploma in Habilitation and Disabilities of Sight (CYP)

First degree or a minimum qualification equivalent to QCF Level 4 plus extensive relevant work experience.
