Your New Role
Portsmouth City Council are looking for a Principal Transport Planner with experience in project management to join our team, working on an exciting policy and strategy to deliver the city's Air Quality Local Plan to achieve compliance with legal limits for nitrogen dioxide.
As the Principal Transport Planner, you will be responsible for the development of transport-based solutions to deliver local air quality policy and strategy across the city. You will be working on high profile pieces of work in a fast-paced environment, engaging with councillors, external stakeholders, public transport operators and residents to solve complex and challenging problems.
What you'll need to succeed
You will need to be degree educated or demonstrate equivalent professional experience and be able to communicate appropriately to your audience. Membership of a professional body is desirable but you must have proven ability to represent the service at highly challenging meetings. You will demonstrate a high level of reasoning, excellent writing skills and have a team player ethos. You will also be able to demonstrate higher level thinking skills in order to establish solutions that draw on the bigger picture.
Ideally you will have experience working within a politically sensitive environment but you must demonstrate experience of budget management. You will be able to keep up to date with best practice and demonstrate a customer focused approach to work which promotes your passion. You must also be confident in building rapport and negotiating with or influencing others.
