Base Location: Watling House, Dunstable and Priory House, Shefford or Biggleswade.

Our Children’s Services Teams are excited to offer opportunities for qualified Social Workers to join us here at Central Bedfordshire Council.

We are looking for qualified Social Workers with a strong understanding of the best way of applying different social work theories. Ideally you will come to us with ideas and knowledge to deliver imaginative ambitious interventions that improve outcomes for all involved. Excellent communication skills will be required to present high quality reports and work with other agencies. It is essential you have a calm, organised approach with sound IT skills and the ability to maintain professional conduct at all times.
We have opportunities available for both Level 1 & Level 2 Social Workers within both our Safeguarding and Court Teams. It is essential for these roles that you have at least 1 years post qualifying experience and must be a regular driver with access to your own vehicle for the purposes of work.
Our Family Support Service Teams are based in Dunstable and Biggleswade. Here we function in small teams and have strong management support and manageable caseloads for all our Social Workers. We have a strong sense of partnership working and aim to create a scaffold of people and professionals that can support children to remain living at home where possible.
Our main functions include supporting children who are subject to Child In Need plans and Child Protection plans. We also carry out PLO work and initiate care proceedings where the risks are increased. The successful social worker will need to have a good understanding of contextual safeguarding and exploitation.
We use and support the systemic models of practice and endorse the use of motivational interviewing in all of our work with families. We strongly believe that working alongside our families and enabling them to create change is what provides the children we work with better outcomes. You will have access to good quality IT equipment to enable agile working.
Our Court and Permanence Teams are based at Priory House in Shefford. Here we also function in small teams and have strong management support and manageable caseloads for all our Social Workers.
Within the team we continue with care proceedings that have been started by the Family Support Service, working primarily with looked after children and having a good understanding of both the court process and looked after children process. Our ultimate aim is supporting children and young people into permanence, be that through a rehabilitation plan home or into their forever home of fostering or adoption.
