The role

To have a key role in making Gravesham an even safer place to live and work by authorising on and co-ordinating the delivery of community safety and environmental enforcement projects and initiatives. 

Main responsibilities

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with good communication skills and the ability to deal calmly and professionally with environmental enforcement and Anti Social Behaviour issues. 

As the Environmental Enforcement Manager, you will be required to have a strong commitment to improving the Borough by investigating and participating with enforcement projects to enhance community safety within the Borough in order to make a difference. 

In this challenging role you will work collaboratively with internal and external partners to deal with Enviro-crime and Anti-Social Behaviour issues and queries across the borough, taking a lead on community safety/environmental enforcement. 

You must be enthusiastic, working on your own initiative to manage your own workload of enforcement and ASB actions, together with providing support to our partners and the ASB Officers. You will also be responsible for leading and managing the Safer Place Officers working within the Borough. 

As the lead officer in coordinating and employing the use of enforcement powers you will also fulfil the role of Investigating Officer on behalf of the Council for the purposes of the Criminal Procedures and Investigations Act. This will include acting as a professional witness in court as required in connection with a range of enforcement issues.  

Essential qualifications/experience 

Ability to accurately research, report and summarise on key data and information.

Strong collaboration skills including the ability to gain the trust and support of colleagues.

Proven planning and organisational skills including the ability to lead plan and manage projects.

Sound knowledge of legislative and enforcement powers within the community safety field and particularly in respect of anti-social behaviour.

Knowledge of local government structure and procedures.

Good standard of education equivalent to a minimum of 5 GCSE’s at Grade C or above to include Maths and English.

Previous experience in a community safety, crime reduction or enforcement role.

Experience of building and maintaining positive working relationships with partner organisations.

Experience of case management, including the collation of evidence, taking of statements and court processes.

Experience of line-management and supporting staff.

The ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines.

Strong communication skills.

Strong collaboration skills including the ability to gain the trust and support of colleagues.

Ability to work as an individual or as part of a team.

Ability to work some weekends and unsocial hours as dictated by the job and projects.

Clean Driving Licence. 

Desirable qualifications/experience

Knowledge of methods used to monitor performance and in setting standards.

Relevant professional qualification.
