Cemetery Operative (Gravedigger)

Salary: Starting from £9,777 to £10,583 p.a.

Grade: Grade 3

Hours: 18.5 hours per week

Place of Work: Adur and Worthing Cemeteries and Crematorium

Closing date: 3rd April 2020

We are seeking an experienced Cemetery Operative (Gravedigger) based primarily at Mill Lane Cemetery, Shoreham  to carry out a full range of cemetery duties including preparation for funerals, grave excavations (using machine excavator), back filling and cemetery maintenance.

You may be required to work at any one of six cemeteries, Crematorium and Churchyards across Adur and Worthing and so a driving licence is essential. Ideally you will hold a C.O.T.S. certificate or will be prepared to undertake training to achieve it.  You should have experience of mechanical excavators and hydraulic grave shoring equipment.

The job involves some manual lifting and due to the nature of the work manual excavations below ground level including removing spoil to above ground is to be expected.

There are occasional out of hours interments, which will have to be covered by this post.  This offers the successful applicant limited scope for overtime as the post is Monday to Friday with the occasional weekend interment.

For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Samual Gritt on 01903 872678.
