Vocational Development Officer
At Barnsley, we’re now working towards creating a new vision and ambition for people to live, work, invest and visit our communities; where people can realise their potential and be inspired and enthused to create a better and brighter life. As a key member of our learning and vocational development team you’ll be responsible for developing and delivering vocational learning and development programmes and qualifications to council employees and external customers which will contribute to cultivating a thriving and skilled community.
Creativity, ambition and a focus on people. That’s what matters at Barnsley Council. Our award-winning council is on an exciting journey of change. It’s all about putting local people at the heart of everything, listening to and doing good for our communities. We’re now more innovative, more efficient and provide better value for money. The changes are clear to see - from new businesses and jobs, to improving school results and to museums being recognised for their community engagement.
Shape a better future with us
We’re thrilled to have achieved Investors in People (IIP) Gold status for how we lead, support and develop people. Now we’d like you to be part of our success and help us take change further. Join us on our journey to a brighter future. By working together, with each other and with our communities, we can take pride in improving lives. Let’s make a better Barnsley for everyone.
Your role in our journey
You’ll join our dedicated Assessment Team to deliver vocational qualifications to both Council employees and external learners through effective and efficient assessment, guidance and support and verification processes in line with our Accredited Assessment and awarding organisation requirements. A key aspect of the role will be to monitor and maintain electronic records in relation to learner’s progress using our e-portfolio software OneFile.
What you’ll need
To join us, you’ll need a relevant Level 4 diploma or equivalent in a related discipline, and a Level 3 certificate in assessing vocational achievement or an equivalent qualification e.g. D32/D33 or TAQA qualifications with evidence of continuous professional development. You’ll have experience in the assessment of vocational qualifications and/or national occupational standards. We are particularly interested in applications from individuals who have occupational competence in adult social care, residential childcare or children and young people’s workforce.
A lot to look forward to
Here at Barnsley, we live and work by four important values: honesty, teamwork, excellent service, and taking pride in what we do. As part of our team, you can be sure we’ll do all we can to support you in being truly excellent. You see, we prioritise learning and enabling you to achieve your potential. So, we’ve created a development process that lets you grow in the way that suits you - whether that’s training to be a leader or learning flexibly online. That’s one of the reasons why we achieved IIP Gold, and why you’ll find your career here inspiring and rewarding.
