Who is eligible to apply for the Newly Qualified Social Worker programme?
You need to have completed your social work qualification and registered with the professional regulator Social Work England (SWE) by September 2020, and to not have previously worked as a qualified Social Worker.
Take your first step into social work and join one of our Outstanding teams at East Sussex Children’s Social Care. You’ll discover a challenging but rewarding career in which you’ll make a real difference to the lives of vulnerable children and families.
Our social workers are skilled and ambitious and able to build relationships with families which genuinely change lives for the better.
What do you need?
You’ll have buckets of patience, sound judgement, as well as excellent observational and analytical skills. Crucially, you’ll be genuinely curious about what’s happening within a family.
You will be able to get the most out of being in a team based learning environment which encourages innovation and a culture which nurtures and supports staff.
We are proud to say that in July 2018 we were judged Outstanding by Ofsted.
So, join us now, and start a fulfilling career in social work with East Sussex County Council.
Bringing about genuine change
We believe in really making things happen. So, we have developed our own model of practice, Connected Practice, which focuses on intensive relational work with children and families underpinned by evidence-informed interventions. Ofsted recognised that this approach brings about genuine and long-lasting change with our families and we fully support the development of our staff to deliver it.
A supportive environment
We know it’s a demanding job so have created a genuinely supportive environment; supervision is a priority as is the sharing of skills, knowledge and learning, and we strongly encourage you to focus on your wellbeing through our mindfulness training.
And, in our increasingly digitally-dynamic organisation, we’ll equip you with an iPhone and hybrid laptop, you will access our own webinars and podcasts and apps to support you in your work with children and families.
Assessed and Supported Year into Employment
You will join our progressive ASYE programme which will enable you to develop essential professional skills, competence and authority through planned induction, reflective supervision, mentoring, protected caseloads, and bespoke training.
You will be supported in delivering social work the East Sussex way through ‘Connected Practice’ which includes intensive training in child and adult attachment and motivational interviewing as well as developing core skills in communicating and engaging children and families.
You’ll discover that continuous professional development underpins our approach and you can choose to take the pathways to progression which suits your career goals.
