Job Title: Information Officer – SENDIASS
Location: Based at County Hall, Hertford, working across Hertfordshire
Salary Range: £22,462 - £24,799 (pro-rated for part time)
Hours: 37 (Term Time only + plus 3 weeks)
Contract:Permanent (job share will be considered)
The Special Educational Needs and Disability Information, Advice and Support Service (SENDIASS) is a statutory service that provides free, impartial and confidential information, advice and support on matters relating to children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The service is offered to children, young people aged between 0 and 25 years and their parents.
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the team to support the delivery of the service and to further help embed the changes arising from the Children and Families Act 2014. The role involves providing information and support, investigating sources of information and appropriate signposting to other services and agencies. Where necessary the post holder will deliver this through face-to -face meetings including visiting families at home, events and workshops and therefore a driver’s licence and access to a car is essential in this role.
The successful candidate must have outstanding interpersonal skills, including oral and written communication, active listening skills, empathy and ability to build positive relationships with families, practitioners and colleagues. The ability to be flexible and proactive in approach to dealing with difficult situations, working with sensitive and confidential information and working well under pressure is also essential. The successful candidate would work well within a team as well as able to work on their own initiative. Relevant practical experience of working with families, knowledge of current SEND working practice and legislation would be a distinct advantage.
