About the role
At Windlesham Road we provide 24 hour 7 day a week care and support for five female residents with learning disabilities whose behaviour can be complex. We make every effort to provide as homely an environment as possible and our dedicated team of staff work hard to ensure that our residents’ individual needs are met in a caring and sensitive manner and skills are developed in a way that promotes their independence. The service is situated in a residential area with easy access to local amenities, transport links and the city centre.
Our last CQC inspection rated the service as “good” and the inspectors highlighted the fact that “all residents appeared relaxed, happy and very comfortable in their surroundings”. They also commented that the “management team promoted an open and inclusive culture and care staff “felt valued and supported”. One member of staff told the inspectors when asked what the service did well said “It's homely and comfortable here and not like an institution. It's like a small family, helping people to participate in the house and doing activities.”
About the role
You will join a large team of committed staff in providing high level support to those living at Windlesham Road. The help you provide will be tailored to each individual’s needs and is designed to help them to maintain as much independence as possible.
The support you provide to the residents will involve:
• supporting with intimate personal care where required • enabling individuals to participate in a range of activities within the wider community such as swimming, trampolining, eating out, bowling, shopping etc. • help with cooking meals and general household cleaning tasks, laundry etc. • assisting with the administration of medication • completing care records • using various communication tools to help residents express themselves • creating and maintaining relationships with family members, carers and friends
You don’t need any formal qualifications or previous care experience for this role as we will provide you with an in-depth induction programme where you will be well supported by your managers and colleagues. However, you will need to:
- have a caring and flexible approach to your work
- have good written and number skills
- be able to work well as part of a team
- be able to work on your own initiative and think quickly in a difficult situation
