About the role
With over 11 million visitors to Brighton & Hove each year, you will play a major part in keeping our beaches safe and enjoyable for all who use it.
Last year our Lifeguard & Seafront Team responded to 134 incidents saving 46 lives and reunited 45 missing persons – it’s fair to say no day is the same, you will face challenges and you will be the difference in keeping people safe.
What we are looking for:
A competent swimmer with the physical ability to pass a beach lifeguard course.
You’re passionate about sea safety, clean beaches and customer service.
You have a knowledge and practical experience of 1st aid and incident management.
You’re great at working in a team and have lots of enthusiasm.
You have a flexible and adaptable approach to working environments and hours.
You are happy to work outside in all weather conditions.
You have a cool head in a crisis, can think on your feet and don’t shy away from dealing with difficult situations.
You’re proactive, quick to spot potential problems and you are good at working out solutions using your own initiative.

Full Time: 37 hours per week.
The normal working week is 37 hours, Monday to Sunday inclusive, on a fixed rota pattern. You will also be required to attend in house training throughout the season if recruited.
23 x Fixed Term Contracts (16th May 2020 - 6th September 2020)
Casual contracts will be considered to compliment the service dependent on commitment to hours as will late starters

If your application is successfully shortlisted you will be invited to attend a swim test.
Swim Test: Sunday 5th April
To swim 400m in under 7m30sec (16 lengths of a 25M pool)
If you pass this you will then be invited on to the interview stage.
Interviews: Week commencing 6th April 2020
Conditional offer: As well as References, Right to Work and DBS checks - all candidates must hold a valid UK Beach Lifeguarding Qualification before their start date.
Beach Lifeguard Courses are available nationally and locally and we appreciate not everyone has this qualification prior to application so please contact The Seafront Office in advance to get an understanding of what the course entails.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency's Points-based Immigration System.
