Wokingham Borough Council are seeking an ambitious Graduate Civil Engineer to join their team working on drainage, highways and major projects. This role offers an exciting opportunity – whether you are a new graduate finishing university or an Engineer with up to three years’ experience.
ABOUT THE ROLE
This is a vital role within our expanding Capital Projects Team. As a Civil Engineering graduate at WBC, you’ll have the chance to gain experience in a wide range of work, from designing structural maintenance programmes, to assisting project managers on our large-scale projects.
You’ll get involved in report writing, modelling and designing calculations in 3D software packages. Your day could also involve visiting site and liaising with contractors, as well as discussing options for concept designs with colleagues. You’ll respond to councillor requests for information and attend meetings with the team about the scope and progress of projects. A flexible approach to your work and excellent communication skills are therefore essential for this role.
Naturally, there is a lot to learn and you will be guided through complex software packages, team briefings and client updates from the start. We’ll give you the support you need, but we’re looking for a self-starter who isn’t afraid to get stuck into their work.
You’ll be passionate with the curiosity and creativity to solve problems. You’ll want to stretch and inspire us, speaking up about any new ideas you have.
We’re looking for someone who enjoys working in a team environment, sharing ideas and collaborating with colleagues. You’ll have confidence to work under pressure with the ability to prioritise and plan effectively.
What will you get from us? We care about individuals and their progress and offer the most fulfilling career development for our professionals. Professional accreditation is an important milestone to reach. After years of study in your field and hard work on the job, you’ll want the recognition that you are at the top of your game. If you choose to pursue a qualification with the ICE, we’ll provide a technical mentor to help you on your journey.
Wokingham is situated in the heart of the thriving Thames Valley and is consistently voted one of the best places to live in the UK. This is an exciting time to join as the council is delivering substantial infrastructure projects and new housing.
The Council offers a range of employee benefits including generous annual leave, flexible working opportunities and an excellent pension. We’re committed to making you feel empowered in your work, whether that’s through approachable and engaged management, or extra training to enhance your expertise. This is combined with great development opportunities, meaning you’ll feel supported and encouraged at every stage of your career.
Ours is a high support, high challenge work environment, where people can fulfil their full potential.
