Wokingham Borough Council are seeking a Clerk of Works to join their Highways and Transport Team. This is a vital role in which you’ll supervise projects carried out across the borough, ensuring work is being carried out to a high standard.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As Clerk of Works you’ll have a varied, interesting role where your work will change from day to day. Your main responsibility will be to drive around the borough and oversee delivery of projects being carried out by our partners and contractors. We’ll look to you to inspect construction works for compliance with contract documentation, contract instructions and good practice. You’ll also ensure they comply with statutory regulations e.g.: Highway Specification, CDM Regulations, Health and Safety at Work Act and Control of Asbestos Regulations.
You’ll carry out inspections to record any defects presenting after the completion of works and refer these to the appropriate contact. As part of this, you’ll need to keep comprehensive, well-structured reports of conditions and progress on site – attention to detail and prior knowledge of the construction and highways industries are therefore essential.
Other key responsibilities include reviewing contract documentation such as drawings, specifications and contract conditions, and advising upon the practical implications of implementing our designs.
A key part of your role will be liaising with residents and resident groups to address any areas of dissatisfaction. We’re therefore looking for a strong communicator and negotiator that can be the public face of our department.
You’ll be the eyes and ears of our department, ensuring the work that’s being carried out is safe and to the standard we expect.
For this role, we’re seeking someone with knowledge of the contractual terms contained within the standard forms of building contract. You’ll demonstrate knowledge of construction technology and have experience of inspecting construction work for compliance with contract documentations, regulations and good practice. We’ll expect you to have an in-date CSCS card.
As this role involves driving across our various sites, you’ll need a full UK driver’s licence.
