About the Post:
This is an exciting time to join Barnsley Children and Family Social Care Service who have recently been judged by Ofsted to be a Good authority in October 2018. Ofsted reported that “social work practice in Barnsley is flourishing” and that “leaders and managers have created a culture in which social workers are valued, feel valued and are proud to work for Barnsley”.
We are looking to recruit highly motivated, creative, enthusiastic and committed Team Manager to our Disabled Children’s Team. We have high aspirations to achieve the very best outcomes for vulnerable children and young people residing in the borough. This means supporting Social Workers to develop excellent assessment and analytical skills apply evidence based interventions and develop the confidence and skills to make timely decisions and plans for children that will achieve positive and sustainable outcomes for their future.
You will manage the Disabled Children’s Team which is based at Gateway Plaza in the centre of Barnsley which covers the whole of the Borough. The team has its own screening point which receives referrals from Screening Team at Worsborough but it also takes referrals direct from professionals and families/carers. The team manages Child in Need / Child Protection/Court Work and Looked After Children and completes assessments. The team works to support children, young people, families and carers where a child has a disability or complex health needs from 0 - 18. The team works with children from the point of referral through to the conclusion of involvement. The Disabled Children’s Team works to an eligibility criteria, which includes children with a learning disability, physical disability, sensory impairment and autism.
The team also supports children in transition into Adult Services. As part of this the team works in conjunction with Brokerage and Support Team, Shared Lives and Adult Services.
The Team Manager chairs the short break panel each month which considers all short break requests. The Team Manager also represents Children’s Social Care at the Children’s Continuing Care Panel.
The post holder will provide leadership and line management to a team of social workers and will report to the Service Manager for Children’s Social Care & Safeguarding. You will be motivated to lead the team to success, while contributing to service wide performance.
You will have extensive and recent experience of providing supervision and managerial oversight to social workers in a statutory child care setting. You will be able to make timely and well evidenced decisions in relation to safeguarding and lead a team of social workers carrying out tasks which promote the best outcomes across life domains for children and young people.
You will work closely with other managers in the service to contribute to the development and implementation of systems and processes which underpin safe and effective Social Work practice, including the provision of a duty service and the allocation of work.
You must have well established skills in working within a multi-agency perspective and the resilience required to successfully lead a Social Work Team in this area. In-depth knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, statutory guidance and best practice associated with children and their families is essential.
You will also be numerate; skilled in the use of IT, have advanced communication skills and be solution focused.
