The Shared Finance Service was established in April 2017 and provides financial services to the London Borough of Sutton and the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames. We have many customers including, front-line Council services, Councillors, residents, Council owned companies, businesses and partner organisations from other sectors. We deliver professional accountancy and financial management, commercial advice and expert analysis, innovative finance operations and financial inclusion services for vulnerable residents.
We have achieved a lot in our first three years of operation and are ambitious in our vision to do more. About the role
This role is responsible for leading the technical accounting function across both Kingston and Sutton councils. You will lead a team responsible for strong financial stewardship and the integrity of our financial records, delivering high quality statutory Accounts and external reporting. You will also oversee the financial systems and control functions, ensuring innovative use of digital tools enhances and streamlines our offer to stakeholders.
To succeed in this role you will need to be an expert technical accountant comfortable leading year end closing and accounting activities for revenue and capital budgets. You will understand how Councils manage and develop core income streams from Council Tax and Business Rates, and will have the capability to work effectively with other departments to provide strong control and monitoring over these areas of funding. You will be confident in your abilities to build effective working relationships with senior officers and external partners, and lead by example in promoting a working culture that reflects our values.
