Winchester City Council attaches great importance to the protection and enhancement of the natural and built environments of the district through the planning process. The successful candidate will be responsible for investigating and resolving a wide variety of alleged breaches of planning control. This will include undertaking site visits to identify if any breaches are taking place. If any breaches are found, you will attempt to resolve them by inviting the submission of planning applications where appropriate or through negotiation. You will also ensure compliance with formal planning notices, which could involve prosecution in the Magistrates Court or arranging direct action, and compliance with planning permissions and conditions. You will work closely with the public, Parish Councils and other internal and external stakeholders.
It will be advantageous if applicants for this post have some experience of the planning process and have an ability to read and scale from architectural plans, although this can be achieved through on the job training.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills are a must. We are seeking a highly motivated individual who is confident and outgoing, able to deal with difficult situations, well organised and able to prioritise effectively, with a positive outlook and is able to deal with a busy and demanding caseload. You must be a team player.
The Council works in partnership with the South Downs National Park, and the successful candidate will be expected to work across both Winchester’s District and the National Park.
