In North Somerset we are committed to developing effective and supportive Community Family Team’s providing high quality effective social work interventions.
Our Community Family Teams are made up of social workers, consultant social workers, young person support workers, family support workers as well as a Learning Pod of ASYE’s and students. The work is varied and caseloads, whilst small, consist of child in need, children in need of protection, care proceedings and adoption. We believe that by remaining involved throughout the journey you will experience job satisfaction as well as providing better outcomes for the child and their family.
As a social worker in these teams you will have access to a range of support to enable you to achieve change within families; this includes support workers who are trained in parenting work including mellow bumps and mellow babies, Incredible Years and specialist groups for parents suffering from domestic violence or drug and alcohol misuse. There is also a dedicated contact service which provides supervised contact to children looked after. In addition we have an edge of care service who works intensively with young people at risk of becoming accommodated. We use Signs of Safety as our social work model and full training is available across the workforce.
North Somerset is a small Local Authority covering very rural areas around Clevedon, Portishead and Nailsea as well as areas around Weston town centre where there are high levels of deprivation. We have particular challenges due to our seaside location with high levels of drug and alcohol problems and a transient population. Additionally we are working hard to respond effectively to child sexual exploitation, so we can certainly offer sufficient challenge to even the most experienced social worker. Being small our senior managers are approachable and accessible and we have a Principal Social Worker who champions social work at all levels as well as providing regular monthly sessions focussing on areas of practice development.
We want to hear from experienced child care social workers who want to join our service and experience working in North Somerset. If you have at least one year post qualifying experience within statutory work and are looking for fresh challenges to refresh your motivation and develop your skill set we would love to hear from you.
