Job Title: Network Planner
Location: Main Base: Hertford
Salary Range: £31,371 - £33,799 pa
Hours: 37 hours per week
“An opportunity has arisen for a new Network Planner within the Passenger Transport Unit. The role will support the Network and Travel Planning team to implement the county council’s Local Transport Plan 4.
Forecasts predict that by 2050, the population of Hertfordshire will have grown by around 400,000 to over 1.5m, having a major impact on traffic congestion and journey times, particularly during peak travel periods. To date, over 30 Air Quality Management Areas have been designated, and obesity costs the county an estimated £404 million per year.
The role seeks to make Hertfordshire’s transport network more sustainable, increasing opportunities for residents to travel to school or work by public transport, facilitating behaviour change, and reducing reliance on single-occupancy cars
The Network Planner will play an essential role in the management of the Hertfordshire’s network of contracted local bus services. The post-holder will be planning bus services and keeping timetables under continual review in response to the evolving context in which they operate, be it operators’ proposals for their own commercial services, changing levels of congestion or the availability of funding. The workload is varied, dynamic and high profile, with substantial public and political visibility.
Training and support will be provided to the successful candidate, but this role requires an individual with relevant experience in the bus industry, a genuine passion for passenger transport issues, and a desire to support the county council’s ambitions for a shift to sustainable transport modes.
Please note that occasional travel is expected with this role.
