STREET SCENE MANAGER – ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES
Salary NS15: £42,683 rising to £44,632 per annum
Newark and Sherwood District Council is committed to making the district a cleaner, safer and greener place to live, work and visit. This is reflected in the objectives of our Community Plan, available here, and the new Environmental Services Business Unit will have this at the heart of its activities.
One area that the new Business Unit will focus on is the continued delivery and development of a superb district-wide street cleansing and grounds maintenance service. The hard work and commitment of our existing teams was recently recognised with Newark being named as the least littered town in the East Midlands. This is something that we are extremely proud of and building on this existing success will be at the centre of the new Street Scene Manager’s role.
The successful candidate will be required to lead the street cleansing and grounds maintenance teams, taking these services forward in an effective, professional and efficient manner. You will take a commercial approach, identifying opportunities for growth and preparing and winning bids for new business. This will involve working in a strategic manner and considering how the service can grow for the future both to increase its commerciality and to ensure that it is working towards the objectives of the community plan.
You will have extensive, demonstrable experience and success in managing and motivating frontline, operational teams in a street cleansing or grounds maintenance environment and will have an understanding of both areas. You will also be able to show experience of managing budgets, writing reports and of taking an innovative, solutions focussed approach to any issues that may arise.
You will work in a calm and professional manner at all times, have excellent communications skills including report writing and be able to effectively translate strategy in to tasks and objectives along with measuring progress and success against targets.
You will be based at the Council’s depot on Brunel Drive and, due to the nature of the role, must be willing to work outside of normal office hours, or at different locations, if required in order to meet the needs of the role.
