About the role
Mallow Crescent comprises of a cluster of eight modern houses in Burpham (near Guildford) providing Supported Living and Short Breaks services for people with learning disabilities. We use a person centred approach to support individuals with daily living tasks, personal care, access to leisure pursuits, education, skills development and social networks within the local community. We are looking for people who are motivated and committed to improving individual's lives and have a desire to empower and promote independence.
We have a 4 week rolling rota and provide care and support 7 days a week, 24 hours a day including bank holidays and evenings. You will be required to work every other weekend and complete sleep in duties (Sleep in rate = £45 per night). We require people to have a driving license and be willing to drive the site cars.
You do not need any other formal qualifications to apply for Residential Support Worker positions; you simply need to have the right values:
- Understanding the needs of people with learning disabilities
- A willingness to encourage and support people with learning disabilities to access activities, develop skills and provide new opportunities
- Respect for the cultures and beliefs of the people we support
- Resilience and emotional intelligence to handle challenging situations
- Be adaptable but able to follow guidelines with a consistent, person centred approach
- A flexible attitude, both to the level of care required by the people we support as well as the time requirements of the role
- To act as key worker for identified service users, undertaking reports and assessments and contributing to reviews under the overall supervision of more senior colleagues
- To ensure that individual care plans are implemented and that the personal and health care needs of service users are met
- To work with colleagues to ensure the well-being of all residents and effective service delivery and to contribute with them to the development of the service within the establishment
- To liaise with carers, relatives, colleagues and external agencies to ensure good communication and that the best possible outcome is provided for the service user
- To maintain records for service users
- To ensure compliance with legislation, departmental policies and procedures and to ensure that practice meets the requirements of Health and Safety and Equal opportunities policies
- Organising the shift, communicating with colleagues to plan and coordinate activities
- Engagement in planning, implementation and delivery of care plans
- Competent in using MS Office products
- Ensuring all your training requirements are met and recorded accurately
You will receive Full Induction Training as well as the opportunity to undertake further personal skills training under regular staff supervision. You will complete the Care Certificate within 12 weeks of the start of your employment and there are opportunities for further development available.
