West Devon Borough and South Hams District Councils are shared authorities with an exciting, innovative and forward-looking delivery model.
Both Councils have declared Climate Change and Biodiversity Emergencies and aim to be net-zero organisations by 2030. We are also committed to work towards making the Borough and District net-zero by 2050 at the latest and to achieve this, we need a Climate Change Specialist to lead on delivering against these ambitious targets.
We are looking for an experienced professional who will be the Councils' expert advisor on carbon reduction and climate change policy. The post requires a balance of technical skills and policy knowledge. Some experience of strategy development and project management would also be beneficial.
Key elements of the role include developing our strategic approach and delivering against our two emerging plans: 'The Operational Carbon Reduction Plan - Reducing Our Footprint' and 'The South Hams Climate Change and Biodiversity Action Plan'. This will involve working closely with a number of stakeholders including elected Members of both Councils, our local communities and key internal and external partners.
The successful candidate will have a degree in a relevant subject such as Environmental Science (or equivalent work experience) and a thorough understanding of the Climate Change and Biodiversity agendas. You will be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills across a range of audiences and the ability to work effectively against challenging deadlines.
