As the Head of Council Tax and Business Rates, you will play a critical role in delivering our ambition to make Camden a better borough – a place where everyone has a chance to succeed and where nobody gets left behind. The post holder will be passionate about designing services focused on residents and businesses and will bring a wealth of experience and best practice to ensure proportionate, fair and effective collection of over £800m income.
You will provide strategic leadership on Council Tax and Business Rates to the Council, accurate forecasting, inclusive people management and continue our ambitious service development journey to improve customer experience through collaboration across service and organisational boundaries and empowering citizens and staff.
Alongside this, it is expected that the role will be responsible for the further development and implementation of the Council’s new and innovative Council Tax Support Scheme providing financial support to the poorest households in Camden.
Your extensive background in Council Tax and/or Business Rates will mean you are able to deliver excellent leadership at both a strategic and operational level, leading demand driven, high profile, fast-paced services. You will bring an understanding of new and creative solutions to ensure effective collection, minimising the escalation of debt and using data to target support at those most in need.
You will proactively seek out creative solutions to long-term challenges, ensuring customers have a strong voice in guiding our future service delivery, identifying opportunities for further improvement and collaborating with others to deliver them.
The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, sound political acumen, as well as excellent influencing and collaboration skills. At the heart of this role is providing outstanding people management, budget and leadership skills, evidencing a track record of successfully delivering change and high performance within a setting of changing priorities and demands.
