The Service - Parks, Culture and Regulatory Services 

The In House Grounds Maintenance Operations Service covers the south east and north areas of the city and is responsible for the 760 hectares of publically accessible green space in Portsmouth. Portsmouth's green and public spaces are at the heart of the local community and receive great support and affection from residents. 

The services main priority is to maintain a high standard across all grounds maintenance areas and develop its service centred around community engagement and interaction of Portsmouth's Parks and Open Spaces.

What is the role? 

As part of the Grounds Maintenance operations team you will carry out the necessary works to maintain all aviaries, animal enclosures and ponds to ensure the health and security of all birds, animals and fish held within Victoria Park and College Park enclosures. This role is a part time position of 6 hours per week to be worked on Saturdays.

You will be responsible for carrying out a range of duties which will include tending to livestock daily for the feeding, watering and cleaning of the quarters. You will carry out visual inspections to check for any signs of ill health or injury and will replenish straw, wood shavings and hay as required.

The post holder will be required to drive a commercial vehicle to consult with veterinary practices on livestock health and maintain vaccination and other records for livestock.

What you need to succeed?

We're looking for a proactive team player who is able to demonstrate a practical knowledge in the care and welfare of commercial animals. The successful candidate will have experience in animal husbandry and ideally hold NVQ Level 2 in Animal Management or equivalent. You must be willing to work on Saturdays and flexible to meet the needs of the service.
