About the job

We are recruiting a Programme Delivery Counsellor to work within our Substance Use and Misuse Programme.

You’ll be part of a unique, innovative, evolving service, where you’ll genuinely be able to support people in making changes.

Our Substance Use and Misuse Programmes team deliver a range of targeted substance misuse related personal development and support programmes for adolescents aged 11 - 19, young adults aged 20-25, and adult parents, guardians and carers including those who are at risk of negative substance misuse outcomes, and who require additional support to overcome challenges to their personal, educational, health and social progression.

You will:
  • Provide counselling for young people aged 11-25, who are affected by someone’s use of drugs and/or alcohol
  • Provide counselling for young people aged 11-25, who are experiencing issues due to their drugs and/or alcohol use
  • Support for young people and families in crisis due to use of drugs and/or alcohol
  • Be aware of a range of prominent theoretical models of counselling appropriate for those with substance misuse problems, including but not limited to ACT, and be able to apply these in 1:1 and group counselling sessions
  • Work with service users to help them build sustainable community support networks
  • Complete all appropriate documentation to monitor clients' needs and progress


About the person

The successful candidate will be committed to taking a positive, holistic and empowering approach to service delivery. We are looking for someone who has demonstrable experience and competence of working therapeutically in the substance misuse field or similar environment. As importantly, you'll need a good understanding of issues which Young People face today.

You will also have a creative and dynamic approach to engaging with hard to reach and other vulnerable groups of young people and to developing interventions in response to their needs.

For this role, you’ll need to have the appropriate counselling qualifications and have BACP membership (or be willing to work towards this).

Additional information

This is a part time position, working 18 hours per week. The salary will be pro-rated.
