Would you like a chance to learn administrative skills and develop excellent customer service in the context of a small, busy team based in central Brighton and get a better understand of Travellers and their culture?

Brighton & Hove City Council’s Traveller Liaison Team have an exciting opportunity for a Level 3 apprentice in Business Administration. The Department is responsible for implementing the council's policies in respect of ethnically defined Gypsies and Travellers, providing support to households in the city and working with related services to improve outcomes. The team manages the council's Traveller sites and has an enforcement and support role in relation to unauthorised encampments of Travellers on council land. The post will focus on providing administrative support for this frontline service.

The Business Administration at level 3 is run by GBMet who is responsible for supporting you with your learning and carrying out assessments. The course has core modules to complete and a number of optional units. Your work experience will be linked to the modules and units in your course. You will receive additional support from a nominated mentor, throughout the duration of the Apprenticeship.

About the role

The post is based in a small busy team in central Brighton and you will have the opportunity to learn a wide range of administrative and customer skills.

You will gain knowledge in managing systems and databases, collating statistics for reports. You will learn to use financial systems to process invoices and produce financial reports, as well as learning to manage licences and rents for the transit and permanent residential Traveller sites. There will be the opportunity to write updates for the Traveller webpages on the council's website, as well as learn to draft responses to enquiries from the public, Members and council officers. The team work closely with other related services, such as Health and Education, and there will be the opportunity to experience collaborative work with other teams and external organisations in the delivery of services. Working within this reactive team, there is the opportunity to gain knowledge of current issues relating to Gypsies and Travellers, and by providing good customer care to residents and Travellers, have a positive impact on community cohesion.

Apprentices without evidence of level 2 English and Maths will need to achieve this level prior to completing training and you may be required to take an English and Maths assessment prior to a formal offer being made.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
