Southend Borough Council is a unitary authority based in the heart of the town centre offering traditional seaside living that makes it a great place to live and work. This diverse and busy town has great public parks and leisure activities, competitive house pricing and excellent travel links. The Council are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Digital Innovation Manager to lead the Council on all matters regarding digital technologies and digital initiatives that will directly benefit and contribute towards the Southend 2050 ambition.
Your new role
As part of new Senior IT Leadership team within Southend-on-Sea council, you will join them at the beginning of their digital transformation where you will have the ability to shape the future of Southend-on-Sea. By using your expertise of emerging technology, you will lead and educate the Council on various digital and data enabled propositions and solutions to provide insight on the ‘art of the possible’.
You will use your expertise to research and identify opportunities within the digital space to positively outcome SBC, it’s residents and all future visitors. This is an important role for the council which will cover a very broad range of areas and will see you balancing priorities to deliver multiple projects as part of a larger programme of work.
By working with a whole host of senior business stakeholders, you will create and drive alternative ways of working, utilising new technologies and new business models to add value across the whole council estate. The role will also partner with the Service Design team to ensure services are designed for the future with a digital approach.
You’ll be creating persuasive business cases to provide full recommendations on the digital and technological initiatives you wish to incorporate that evidence the benefit and the implications of your plans to ensure commercial viability. You will oversee the UX strategy which will be very much at the heart of what you create and deliver. The Southend 2050 ambition is to make the lives of the residents of Southend better and your input will directly benefit them.
What you need to succeed
To succeed in this position, an entrepreneurial approach and passion for new and emerging technologies are key, together with an understanding of how they can enhance the delivery and outcomes for residents and visitors to the borough. Your ability to influence and guide people with your digital vision and will ensure success as well as your ability to confidently present new ideas and provide proof of concepts to showcase the benefits. Your creative mindset will also lead to success in this exciting opportunity and will require strong problem-solving skills, experience of using innovation toolsets, embedding data led solutions and a proven track record of operating in a complex environment with a wide range of stakeholders.
You will have a high level of business acumen that will allow you to communicate your ideas and solutions across the business to high a standard, ensuring all details are noted with research to back up your findings. This role will see you creating new relationships with likeminded organisations and 3rd party suppliers to drive collaboration, partnerships and shared learning.
